Pokéball Run

Episode Four

(Tom Wallace appears in the studio.)
Tom: Welcome to episode four of Pokéball Run. Quite frankly, things couldn’t get more interesting if we rigged it! And I’d like to remind everybody that we didn’t.

(Tom coughs)
Tom: Let’s get a recap of Leg Two-

(His screen shows the maneuver Mimi pulls in the beginning of the race..)
Tom: The Angels were a bit of a sleeper in this leg, but nonetheless clocked in on top, which is all that really matters.

(Display Gary in front of Mecha-Snorlax.)
Tom: Just Us Guys, with the help of Triple J, executes a great sabotage in the beginning, which helps them to a second place finish.

(Display Jessie and James performing the motto in front of TK and Kari.)
Tom: Despite being arrested, Jessie and James pull the old pit trap routine, which allows Triple J to recover and place third.

(Display Nakago hustling TK and Kari into the car and speeding off.)
Tom: Nakago’s aggressive tactics guides Hope & Plight to fourth place, despite the team stupidly falling for Team Rocket’s pit trap routine.

(Display Mihoshi sucking gas in the Roadkill Challenge.)
Tom: And Brains & Blondes thought they had Triple J beat, but Team Rocket got the last laugh, forcing the brown car into last. But since they defeated Impulsive Idiots in a Roadkill Challenge, Izzy, Rika, and Mihoshi move on to the next leg while Ash, Davis, and Ruri pack up and leave.

(Display a map of Texas, with a dot on Fort Worth..)
Tom: The five teams are now in Fort Worth, Texas, and are ready for their next Jumpstart Challenge. Let’s go down to Manny Edwards for the details.

Leg Three- Day Five

(Manny is standing in a parking lot in Fort Worth. The five cars (keep in mind that Brains & Blondes are using the red car now) are in one row. Behind them are a line of white rental cars, each with two tires off, and a tire jack, hubcaps, and lug nuts nearby. Behind this line are ten tires, jumbled together, and the fifteen contestants.)
Manny: Behind each car is a rental car missing two tires. You must find the two tires pertaining to that car, then attach the tires, lug nuts, and hubcaps to it. When the tires are attached correctly, one person from each team must start the rental and roll it ahead several feet and knock over a cone. Once they do, you are free to get in your regular car and head off to the next destination. If you are ready- go!

(The teams make a mad scramble for the tires. Brock finds one of his tires, and rolls it over to Akane. Izzy finds one, and Rika finds another. They roll theirs over to Mihoshi. Meanwhile, Nakago picks up one tire and carries it over, while Jessie G. does the same with both tires. TK finds one tire, picks it up for a ways, then throws it strategically so Kari is there to guide its landing next to the wheel.)

Rika: (VO) TK and Kari definitely make a good team. They are probably the closest of any non-driver pairings, with Jessie and James probably being a close second. I never met Izzy before this, so it is a little bit of a disadvantage, but hopefully not one we can’t work around.

(Jessie G. is guiding Team Rocket and making sure they get the wheel on right. Meanwhile, Gary is watching Brock and Akane work.)

Brock: Gary, could you pass me a lug nut?

Gary: Oh… sure.

(Gary lazily does so.)

Akane: We’re in a race you know, you can help a little more.

Gary: Nah… you two are doin’ fine. I can just watch.

(Akane angrily stands up, picks up the other tire, and whacks Gary over the head with it. This happens in the manner of half a second. Gary is obviously woozy.)

Gary: (woozy) How may I assist you Miss Tendo?

(Shinji is working as fast as he can, with Yolei helping out a lot. Still, they aren’t having much luck. Izzy, Rika, and Mihoshi are having about the same luck.)

Izzy: Okay… Mihoshi, hand me a lug nut.

Mihoshi: Um… now where did I put those?

(Jessie and James are working pretty diligently, and get their second tire on. James kicks away the jack.)

James: Now Jessie number two!

(Inside the car, Jessie G. starts it and rolls it over a cone. She gets out and joins Jessie and James inside the blue car. They take off.)

Manny: (VO) And Triple J blasts off first for this leg.

(TK and Kari are working together well. They finish, and nod to Nakago. He runs over the cone, and gets into the yellow car to drive off.)

Manny: (VO) …Followed quickly by Hope & Plight. Their destination is a maze only a mile away. Therein lies a Road Detour challenge, one that can be bypassed using two EZ Passes. Hopefully the teams have them stocked up!

(Akane and Gary get their tire on. Brock rolls the car over and they head out. Meanwhile, inside the blue car, James seems a bit nervous.)

James: Looks like we have a challenge. Do you think the twerps have those passes? Because we don’t have any.

Jessie G: We don’t need any. We’ll just fight through whatever it is and stay on top.

(The red car takes off. Caption: "Brains & Blondes- Fourth Place")

Izzy: It’s a strange feeling driving this car. Ours was virtually shot, and this car is the last memory of Davis, Ruri, and Ash. Their spirits are inside of this car, and it’s our job to cross the finish line with it.

(The pink car follows soon afterwards. Meanwhile, at a large full-scale maze, the blue car pulls into the parking lot. Mike is there to greet Triple J.)

Mike: Okay, this is how the challenge works- inside this maze are five flags for each team color. One person goes in, finds one of your flags, and gets out, allowing the next person to go in and do the same. This continues until all five parts are found. You may get out of this challenge by using two EZ Passes.

(Over James’s shoulder, two passes are handed to Mike. Mike takes them, and they turn to see Kari handing them to Mike, and running back to the car.)

Kari: See you three later!

(Kari gets into the yellow car and it drives off just as the purple one drives in. Caption: "Hope & Plight- Uses 2 EZ Passes- Takes the Lead")

James: Great. We lost our place… right Jessie?

(James looks over and sees that the challenge has started already, and that Jessie G. is waiting for a tag.)

Jessie G: C’mon, Jess!

(Jessie comes out with a blue flag and Jessie G. rushes in. Meanwhile, Mike explains the situation to Just Us Guys. They huddle for a second, and use their EZ Passes.)

Mike: (VO) Hope & Plight and Just Us Guys use their EZ Passes, sending Triple J into third place. How far will they fall behind?

(Overhead shot of James trying to navigate the maze. He has some difficulty, but finds a flag. Back in the parking lot, Izzy and Rika huddle up.)

Rika: Let’s use our passes.

Izzy: I got a better idea- Let’s not. Make them think we don’t have any. Then we pull them out next time and surprise them. Besides, I’m sure we can handle a maze like this.

Rika: I’m sure we can… but what about Mihoshi?

Izzy: I’m sure she won’t delay us… too much.

(Shot of Izzy entering the maze, just as Jessie exits with the fourth blue flag.)

Mike: (VO) Interesting strategy by Brains & Blondes, but since The Angels use their passes as well, B&B will fall into last, at least for now.

(Inside the pink car, Shinji is driving contently. Caption: "The Angels- Third Place")

Yolei: Well, Mimi- What kind of tricks do you have up your sleeve this time?

Mimi: Why Yolei, whatever gives you the idea that I would use devious techniques and trickery to get back at a bunch of boys that are bothering us?

(pause)

Yolei: Seriously… what do you have?

Mimi: Wait and see Inoue… wait and see.

(Overhead shot of the maze. Mihoshi has gotten lost, and is desperately trying to get out.)
Mike: (VO) Triple J has left over ten minutes ago, but with the fifth and final flag in her hand, Mihoshi seems to have gotten stuck in the maze.

Mihoshi: Oh no… uh oh… oh dear. Shoot, I already went this way…

(Outside, Izzy and Rika are waiting for Mihoshi.)

Rika: How long has it been?

Izzy: Too long.

(Izzy walks along the walls of the maze, and starts jumping, trying to get a feel of where Mihoshi is. He has no luck.)

Izzy: Man I wish I wasn’t so short.

(Rika approaches.)

Rika: Gimme a boost.

(Izzy does so, holding Rika up so she can see over the wall.)

Izzy: See anything?

Rika: Yeah… I see her hair. (to Mihoshi) Mihoshi! We’re over here! You’re almost there! Turn left! Left! No, your other left! Well, it’s right now! Okay, good! Straight, keep going straight! (to Izzy) Let me down.

(Izzy does so, and they greet Mihoshi at the exit.)

Mihoshi: Thank you so much, it was really hard…

Rika: Save it, let’s go. This plan of yours better work Izzy.

(The three rush to the red car. Caption: "Brains & Blondes- Last Place")
Mike: (VO) Unfortunately, the delay results in the team being over half an hour behind the first place Hope & Plight. But it looks like there are some plotters elsewhere in the field.

(At a gas station, Brock finishes refueling and joins Akane inside the car. Gary runs back

from inside and joins them. Caption: "Just Us Guys- Second Place")

Brock: Did you do it?

Gary: Yep. I talked to one of the truckers inside, they said he’d spread the word around.

Akane: What are you two doing now?

Gary: I just put a hit out on the girls. Now every truck driver from here to Amarillo will be trying to box them in!

(Akane sighs, with a light smile on her face.)

Akane: Okay, okay… but what about Hope & Plight? They were in first.

Brock: We don’t care about them, we just want to beat the girls!

(In the blue car, Jessie G. passes a stranded motorist. James looks at him, then turns to Jessie G.)

James: Jessie number two? We lost a lot of time in that challenge, don’t you think we should stop for those EZ Passes?

Jessie G: Why? We got through that fine.

Jessie: But the twerps used them to get ahead of us. We’re losing because of them.

James: Besides, I can’t pass up anything "EZ."

Jessie G: Okay, you probably have a point. We’ll stop for the next one.

(In the pink car, a truck swerves in front of Shinji and slows down.)

Shinji: Hey, why’d he just…?

Yolei: Don’t tell me…

Mimi: There’s another one to the side.

Yolei: I bet the boys are trying to box us in.

Mimi: Yeah… nice move gentlemen. I still think I have you beat. If you take the bait, we’ll still get the last laugh.

(Inside the purple car, Akane spies a different stranded motorist, who looks suspicious.)

Akane: Hey, do you think we should stop? We need more Passes.

Gary: Yeah, and this one looks awfully suspicious. Like he’s waiting for someone.

Brock: That’s a good idea. I suppose we can break our guy/girl thing for once.

(They pull over. Brock gets out to check on the motorist.)

Brock: Hey! Need any help with anything?

(The motorist turns around, and immediately shakes Brock’s hand. It ain’t just any motorist- it’s American digi-destined Michael! He acts particularly over-the-top.)

Michael: Why thank you for picking me up! I’ve been waiting so long for somebody to give me a ride.

Brock: Uh, we can’t really…

Michael: I’ve been waiting for hours for somebody. Thanks a lot!

(Michael starts heading for the car, followed by Brock.)

Brock: Um, well…

(Michael turns around, and walks back to the stalled car.)

Michael: Hold on, I forgot my bag…

(Michael retrieves it, and gets in the backseat of the car. Gary and Akane are dumbfounded. Michael extends a hand to Akane.)

Michael: Hello, my name is Michael. It’s a pleasure to meet you!

Akane: (slowly) Um… hi. Akane Tendo.

(Michael continues to shake Akane’s hand, preventing her from driving.)

Michael: An absolute pleasure Akane Tendo!

(Akane lets go and pulls out.)

Brock: So, uh… where are you going?

Gary: Better hope it’s near Amarillo.

Michael: Amarillo! That’s just where I happen to be going! What an amazing coincidence!

(At another breakdown, the blue car pulls over. Jessie G. hops out the driver’s side door, and does a full lightning-fast sprint to the motorist.)

Jessie G: Need any help?

Motorist: Yeah, do you have some water, I need to…

(Jessie G sprints back to her car, grabs a half-filled bottle of water, sprints back, and hands it to him. He takes it and gives her an EZ Pass.)

Motorist: Good work, here’s…

(Jessie G snatches it out of his hand and sprints back to the car. Inside, James is armed with a stopwatch as she pulls out into traffic.)

James: Fifteen seconds.

Jessie G: I’ll do better next time.

(Meanwhile, the adventures with Michael continues.)

Brock: So how far behind do you think the girls are?

Gary: If the truckers got to them, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’d be half an hour behind.

Michael: What’s this about the girls?

Gary: We’re in a race with a bunch of other teams. One team has these really stuck-up girls. I had a bunch of truckers try to slow them down so we stay ahead of them.

Brock: That’s what it’s all about- boys beating the girls, right Mike?

Michael: Oh yeah, definitely! And it’s Michael. But you’re right- we have to stop the girls at any cost.

Akane: Excuse me, in case you hadn’t noticed- I’m a girl!

Gary: Well, technically… but you’re more of a man than that Shinji kid will ever be!

(The pink car approaches Michael’s breakdown.)

Mimi: Let’s see if they took the bait…

(Michael’s dad, who was in the car all along, waves and does a thumbs up to Mimi.)

Mimi: Yes! Somebody picked him up!

Yolei: Picked who up?

Mimi: Michael! I called him a couple days ago to set this up. He has but two missions- annoy and delay!

Yolei: Mimi… you’re a genius.

(Another breakdown. The red car approaches.)

Mihoshi: Should we stop?

Rika: No. Two’s enough for now, and we’re still in last place.

Izzy: Agreed.

(Inside the yellow car, Kari is navigating for Nakago. Caption: Hope & Plight- First Place")

Kari: Okay, it’s exit 75, and a few miles to the checkpoint. So turn here.

Nakago: Yes, Miko.

Kari: For the last time, I’m Kari. My cat’s named Miko.

Nakago: Right… my mistake.

(Back in the purple car, Brock spies another breakdown.)

Akane: Should we really stop?

Gary: We haven’t been having much luck with…

Brock: It’s a girl! Pretty one too!

(Akane sighs and pulls over. Brock gets out and immediately takes the female motorist by the hand. Michael gets out as well.)

Brock: Is there any way for me to help a beautiful girl such as yourself?

Female Motorist: Uh, um… just take it and get out of here!

(She gives Brock an EZ Pass. Brock smiles.)

Brock: Thank you very…

Michael: What seems to be the trouble here?

Female Motorist: What do you mean?

Michael: Well, you seem to be in a bit of a fix. I’m not the best mechanic out there, but I know a few things! Let’s see if we can’t get you back on the road!

(Michael investigates the car.)

Brock: Um, Michael, she’s just a…

Michael: Hmm… I should check your oil. Got a rag?

Female Motorist: You don’t understand. This is a staged breakdown. I already gave your friend the EZ Pass. You can go now!

Brock: Yeah. As much as I’d like to stay with this lovely lady, there are more important things than ogling women… and thanks to Akane I learned that the hard way.

Michael: Are you sure?

Female Motorist/Brock: Yes!

Michael: Let’s check the tire pressure to be safe…

(Brock has to drag Michael away.)

(At the checkpoint in Amarillo, Manny is with Hope & Plight as they pull in, very pleased to be in first. Caption: "Hope & Plight- First Place")

Manny: (VO) And with a good start, as well as another EZ Pass, Hope & Plight checks in first.

Nakago: Excellent. We must now prepare our forces for tomorrow’s battle.

(Nakago walks into the hotel. Kari looks at TK.)

Kari: I usually consider myself pretty open-minded… but he’s not quite right.

TK: He is right about one thing… I have to prepare for tomorrow.

(TK walks into the hotel, leaving Kari looking at him strangely.)

(In the blue car, the team sees a row of truckers.)

Jessie: This is odd.

James: Can we do that pumping thing with our arms and make them honk their horns?

Jessie/Jessie G: Grow up James!

(They move to pass the truckers.)

James: Hey, wait a minute… the pink twerps are between them.

Jessie G: Okay… watch this.

(She swerves to the left lane, and quickly passes the convoy, and the pink car. Inside Jessie and James celebrate while Jessie G. cracks a half-smile. Caption: "Triple J- Takes Second Place")

(In the purple car, Michael is chatting up a storm.)

Michael: …and so the salesperson says that she doesn’t have any for sale. But I said that I saw them out on the display, and told her that it didn’t make sense for them to have them on the display but not for sale. It is quite ludicrous, don’t you think?

(Akane turns around, about ready to slap them.)

Akane: Look! I’m trying to concentrate, so could you please shut up!!

(Akane returns her attention to the road.)

Akane: Gary, didn’t you say we had to get off soon?

Gary: Yeah, it was Exit 75… it should be up here somewhere.

Brock: Please say that sign doesn’t say Exit 77.

Akane: We missed it! What happened?

Gary: I don’t know, I guess I got distracted by all of this guy’s blabbing.

(The three look at Michael, suspicious. Pause)

Michael: If you missed your exit, can you drop me off where I need to go first?

Akane: Where’s that?

Michael: Exit 89.

Akane: Sorry, we’re going to have to turn around somehow. We are in a race you know.

Michael: Of course. Completely understandable.

(Jessie G. clocks in. Caption: "Triple J- Second Place- 15 Minutes Behind Leader")

Manny: (VO) Purple’s mishap allows Triple J to finish second…

(Mimi clocks in and high-fives Yolei. Caption: "The Angels- Third Place- 22 Minutes Behind Leader")

Manny: (VO) And The Angels third.

(Akane is driving through a slummy residential area.)

Akane: Okay, which way now?

Gary: Hold on, give me a minute… I think it’s a right.

Akane: You think or you know?

Gary: Just go right, Akane.

Michael: Maybe you should give me the map. I can navigate!

Gary: Not a chance…

(Rika clocks in and walks up to Izzy. Caption: "Brains & Blondes- Fourth Place- 36 Minutes Behind Leader")

Rika: Fourth place.

Izzy: I suppose that’s okay… it’s not last!

(A few minutes later, the purple car pulls in.)

Akane: Gary, go punch in… hurry!

(Gary gets out immediately. Akane, Brock, and Michael take their time.)

Michael: Amazing! This is exactly the spot I need to go!

Akane: (suspicious) I thought it was Exit 89.

Michael: I thought so too… Mimi!!

(Mimi and Michael run up and hug as Akane and Brock turn their heads in shame, not believing how much they’ve been duped. Gary walks out and sees the hug, and joins Akane and Brock in shame.)

Gary: I knew you were behind this.

Mimi: You bet! Thanks a lot Michael!

Michael: It makes up for Gary trying to box you guys in.

Mimi: Heck, it’s even better!

Brock: We’re going to need a scorecard to figure out who’s winning this…

Gary: This is just getting wild. We each keep trying to top each other, it’s a true battle of the sexes. Naturally, the guys are going to pull through though. After all- they’ve got me!

TK: I saw what Mimi did and it confirmed what I’ve been thinking all along. All of the teams are going all out to sabotage everybody except for us. And I think we need to change that to stay in the game. So I’m going to see if I can’t pull a few tricks out tomorrow. Hopefully if I do it, we won’t have to find out Nakago’s idea of a sabotage.

Leg Three- Day Six

(Jessie and James are measuring a chokepoint in the parking lot next to the hotel. Nearby, an unassuming short-statured gardener is watering some bushes nearby, wearing a very wide-rimmed hat. Jessie lets go of the tape-measure, which flies back and hits James in the face.)

Jessie: This is too wide for Mecha-Snorlax. Maybe we can dig another pit.

James: We only have ten minutes before the goodie-goods leave. And we’re after them.

Jessie: Oh well. Another day…

(They go back inside.)

(Manny is with TK and Kari, who are waiting for the right time to take off.)

Manny: And here we go… Hope & Plight is the first to leave.

TK: Okay Kari, tell him to drive to where I am, then stop.

Kari: Okay… I don’t know what you’re up to though.

(They take off in different directions. Outside, the car meets up with TK.)

TK: Okay… ready?

(The gardener turns around and whips off his hat, revealing himself to be Cody.)

Cody: Ready when you are TK!

(Both hold out their digivices)

TK: Let’s do it then!

(Suddenly, two figures jump out of the bushes and…)

Ankylomon: Ankylomon!!

Angemon: Angemon!!

Ankyomon/Angemon: DNA Digivolve to… Shakkoumon!!

(Behind the car, Shakkoumon stands boldly, taking up the entire driveway. TK hops in the car and high-fives Kari. She is obviously ecstatic.)

TK: Let’s rock, Nak’!

Kari: When did you get Cody over here?

TK: I called him up a couple days ago. This should set them back awhile. (to Nakago) Score one for the good guys!!

Nakago: What is that thing anyway…

TK: It’s Shakkoumon. A very powerful Digimon.

Kari: Don’t you know about him and Digimon? After all, I noticed you’ve got Azulongmon on your pendant.

(Nakago clasps his pendant.)

Nakago: This is my god, the dragon Seiryuu.

TK: Oh…

Kari: Okay, we understand you might have a different name for it. It’s all the same!

Nakago: I’m just wondering why you don’t use this Shakkoumon to take over the world.

TK: Actually, we use it to save the world. How about that?

Nakago: Nothing wrong with that. You have to make sure nobody else takes it over but yourself, right?

(Meanwhile, Triple J have been given the clear to go… but have an obvious problem. Cody is standing nearby, smiling.)

Jessie: Hey, you! Get rid of this thing.

Cody: Why?

James: Because we can do very bad things to you if you don’t!

Cody: Like what?

James: (lost) Um… Jessie like what?

Jessie: Never mind… let’s find some of those other Digi-twerps.

(Izzy and Rika walk outside, obviously shocked at Shakkoumon. Jessie and James grab both of them, and hoist them up by their collars.)

Jessie: You two! You two have to know how to get rid of this thing!

Izzy: Who, Shakkoumon? Sorry, that’s a season two thing. You see, I’m season one and Rika’s season three. We can’t help you!

(Jessie and James drop Izzy and Rika on their bums.)

James: So who’s season two?

(Yolei is waiting for the clear to go. She gets it. Yolei punches out and runs outside, in front of Shakkoumon. Shinji runs in with a laptop computer.)

Shinji: I got it.

(Yolei holds out her digi-vice at the computer.)

Yolei: Thanks… Digi-Port Open!!

(The digi-port opens and Shakkoumon is sucked into the computer. Shinji hands the laptop to a stunned Jessie as Mimi pulls up next to them. Yolei and Shinji get in, and take off. They are tailed by Jessie G. in the blue car.)

Jessie G: Don’t just stand there, get in!

(Back in the studio.)
Tom: Well, Hope & Plight not only increases their lead, but they allow the Angels to sneak ahead of Triple J. But this upcoming challenge will prove to be a doozy. It takes place at a nearby steakhouse less that a mile away. We’ll go to Manny with the details.

(A steakhouse. Manny is greeting Hope & Plight)

Manny: This one is pretty simple. Two people from each team must consume a 72 oz. steak.

Kari: That’s simple?

Manny: Simple to explain. Of course, your hands will be tied behind your back, so the third person must feed you the steak. To get out of this, you’ll need 2 EZ Passes.

Nakago: We only have one. Hmm…

TK: Don’t tell me you’re going to have your "servants…"

Nakago: No… I’m a bit hungry anyway.

(Nakago walks in. TK turns to Kari.)

TK: Wanna rock, paper…

Kari: Nope! Have fun!

(TK and Nakago have their hands tied behind their backs as the steak is delivered. Kari begins to cut it up.)
Manny: (VO) Considering that it’s eleven in the morning, the teams just got done with breakfast, and that Japanese aren’t real big beefeaters… this should be interesting.

(The red car takes off from the hotel. Gary, Akane, and Brock watch it go by.)

Brock: This isn’t good.

Akane: Any more tricks up your sleeve?

Gary: Give me some time and I’ll think of something. Until then, let’s hope we get lucky.

(At the steakhouse, The Angels walk in, with Triple J barging in right afterwards. Manny gives them the details.)

Yolei: Oh boy, who’s hungry?

Mimi: I can give it a shot. But who else should do it?

(Yolei looks at Shinji.)

Shinji: Um… uh…

Yolei: Never mind, I’ll do it. To Shinji, it would be like eating his own body weight.

Jessie G: This can’t be healthy. My body probably couldn’t take this much fat. I’m a well-oiled machine you know.

(Jessie and James step in front of her.)

James: Don’t worry- we’ll cover for you!

Jessie: It’s not often we get the opportunity to partake in a steak break!

(Over at the table, Yolei and Mimi are being tied down. Yolei glances over at Kari, feeding pieces to Nakago. TK is bent down over his plate.)

Yolei: Hey, Kari… is TK okay?

Kari: Yeah… he’s eating.

Mimi: Is he eating or is he passed out?

Kari: Hmm…

(Kari grabs TK’s hair and lifts his head up. Indeed, he’s out cold.)

Kari: Oh. He is passed out.

Nakago: Give me what’s on his plate.

(Kari forks what was on TK’s plate and puts it on Nakago’s.)

Shinji: I guess it is a challenge for us. The other teams at least have one member that can handle their beef… but not us. Nakago seems to do okay, Jessie and James are fine, and once they get here, Brock will be able to do it. But our team is going to have a problem with this.

(Nakago is walking out. Kari is helping a visibly sick TK outside.)

TK: I’m gonna throw up… just watch, I’m gonna throw up.

Kari: Wait until we hit the parking lot.

(They go outside. Izzy, Rika, and Mihoshi stroll in as Manny hands them each a card.)

Manny: Okay, the rules are simple…

Rika: Can the chit-chat, how many passes do we need?

Manny: Two.

(Izzy hands two passes to Manny and they run out.)

Izzy: Ciao!

Jessie: It really shocked me. Here I am eating, and I see Izzy and Rika with passes. They were right behind us in the maze and they didn’t use them. We were really assuming that nobody had any passes left, so we’re going to have to play catch-up again!

(Gary, Brock, and Akane walk in. Gary isn’t happy about this.)

Gary: Okay, so I suppose me and Brock have to do this.

Akane: What do you mean?

Gary: Well, we’re the guys, so obviously we have to eat the steak.

Brock: I don’t have a problem with it.

Akane: Well, I do! I’ll have you know that women can eat steak just as well as guys can!

Yolei/Mimi/Jessie: (OS) You go, girl!

Gary: So are you doin’ it?

(Akane looks at Gary angrily, then marches to the bathroom. She reemerges in her karate outfit, straps on her headband and walks past Brock.)

Akane: (fierce) Let’s do this.

(Gary cracks a half-smile.)

Gary: (sotto) I can’t believe she fell for it. What a loser!

Gary: What can I say? I hate steak!

(Jessie and James get done with their meals, and rush out.)
Manny: (VO) Triple J is the second team to finish, but they are twenty minutes behind the leaders.

(Mimi and Yolei finish, both looking extremely pale. Shinji helps them both out.)
Manny: (VO) Twenty minutes after that, The Angels finally are able to finish up…

(Brock and Akane are cleared to go. Akane looks healthier than Brock.)
Manny: (VO) …with Just Us Guys right behind.

(Inside the red car, Izzy is driving, with Rika with him in the front seat. Caption: "Brains & Blondes- Second Place")

Rika: You’re really lucky that worked, Izzy.

Izzy: Hey it did, didn’t it? The others didn’t see it coming and we’re in second place.

Rika: A lot better than last.

Izzy: You bet. From here on in- it’s smooth sailing. From here to LA, and nothing’s going to stop us. Right Mihoshi?

(In the backseat, Mihoshi is tied up, with a gag around her mouth.)

Izzy: Rika, was the gag really necessary?

Rika: I wanted to shut her up.

(Go to Tom- in the studio.)

Tom: It looks like the Chow a Cow Challenge played a big factor in the standings. From here, it’s smooth sailing along I-40 to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the finish line. Let’s go to Mike, who’s down there.

(Mike is at the finish line in Albuquerque, if you couldn’t figure that out yourself.)

Mike: It looks like our first team is coming in pretty soon…

(It’s the yellow car that pulls in first. Kari runs to the check-in point, and puts the name on the sign. Caption: "Hope & Plight- First Place")
Mike: (VO) It’s Hope & Plight with another first place finish!

TK: I feel a lot better about this victory. Although Nakago did his share, it felt like I contributed a lot more this time rather than having him do all the work.

(The brown car is the next to pull in. Rika runs to punch in.)

Rika: I’ll punch in, you untie Mihoshi!

(Follow Rika as she puts the sign on the board and walks back out. Izzy has freed Mihoshi. Caption: "Brains & Blondes- Second Place- 7 Minutes Behind")

Rika: Second place. TK and Kari won.

Izzy: I’ll take it. Second’s good.

Rika: Definitely.

(Izzy and Rika high-five.)

Izzy: Good work Mihoshi.

(Rika and Mihoshi walk in on other side of Izzy. He smiles and puts an arm around each of their shoulders.)

Izzy: I’m starting to feel like Shinji.

Mihoshi: Or James!

Rika: I don’t think James cares…

(A few minutes later, Triple J clocks in. Caption: "Triple J- Third Place")
Mike: (VO) And yet again- Triple J manages a third place finish. It keeps them alive for now, but another white ribbon effort next time will force them into a Roadkill Challenge.

(Meanwhile, Shinji is pulling up to a stoplight.)

Shinji: Okay, which way do I go?

Yolei: Hold on… Guys at five o’clock.

Shinji: Opponents or guys for you to drool over?

Mimi: Opponents… mean ones too.

(The purple car quickly cuts in front of the pink car at the light.)

Yolei: Shoot!

(Inside the purple car, Brock is driving. Gary and Akane are watching the girls.)

Gary: I got an idea. Just stay there.

(The light turns green, but Brock doesn’t move. Yolei sees this and gets angry. She reaches over and honks the horn at them.)

Shinji: Should I get into the other lane?

Mimi: No… just wait it out. There’s nothing we can do.

Yolei: You sure about this Mimi?

Mimi: (smiling) It’s a gamble… but I say we do it.

(Inside the purple car, Brock is waiting for the yellow light.)

Brock: Just to make sure, it’s straight right?

Gary: Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s straight.

Akane: The girls are going straight.

Brock: It’s straight then!

(The light turns yellow and the car speeds across the intersection, forcing the Angels to stop as the light turns red.)

Yolei: Stupid guys!

Mimi: Very stupid guys… okay Shinji, you can get in the left-turn lane now.

Shinji: I was going to say…

(Shinji does so, and on the next green light, turns left.)

(Inside the purple car, the three are celebrating.)

Gary: That outta set them back! Turn left up here.

Akane: There’s no way they’re beating us now!

(Flash forward to Akane at the finish line, angrily putting up the sign for the team. Caption: Just Us Guys- Last Place")

Akane: (muttering) Stupid guys.

Mike: (VO) Finishing only a minute behind the Angels, but over forty minutes behind Hope & Plight, Just Us Guys will have to go one-on-one with The Angels.

(Mike has led the teams to a parking lot, and an oval course on it. There are four poles along the perimeter of the course, each with two rings hanging off them. Again, the other nine players sit nearby to observe the contest.)

Mike: Here’s how it works- one team member drives the car slowly around this course, without stopping. The other two will sit in the passenger side, holding a long lance out the window. As the car drives around the course, you have to try to spear up to eight rings. Each team gets two passes, and whoever spears the most, stays in the game. I’ll flip a coin- Angels call it.

(Mike flips it.)

Mimi: Heads.

Mike: Heads it is, would you like to go first or second?

Yolei: We’ll go second.

Mike: Very well… Guys? Who’s driving?

(Gary, Brock, and Akane are huddled up.)

Brock: Akane?

Akane: You drive Brock. This requires utmost concentration, one that can only be obtained from a true martial artist.

Gary: And me, of course!

(Akane shakes her head. Brock, meanwhile, has gotten into the car. Akane gets in front, Gary in back. They take the lance, and Brock begins driving.)

Akane: Okay, slow it down.

(Brock does so, and Akane gets the lance around the ring.)

Gary: Good! We got it, keep going!

(On the next one, Akane can’t quite get around it, and knocks the ring off instead.)
Brock: (VO) I think we all realize how important this is. It’s the final showdown here.

(Gary moves a little bit, and they miss the third one… but they get the fourth.)
Akane: (VO) It’s hard concentrating. You really have to coordinate with all of your teammates to win this.

(Mimi, Yolei, and Shinji are watching as the Guys miss the fifth.)
Mimi: (VO) We’re taking notes. That’s why we chose to go second.

(Akane gets the sixth ring, but they miss the seventh and eighth. They get out.)

Mike: All right, you managed to get three rings. Good work. Angels- you’re next!

(Mimi gets into the driver’s seat, with Yolei in back and Shinji in front.)
Gary: (VO) It’s a little tough going first. It means that you have to sit and wait. The future’s out of my hands, and I couldn’t be more nervous right now.

(Yolei and Shinji miss the first one, and the second.)
Yolei: (VO) It’s a lot harder than it looks. I’d hate to say it, but Gary made the back position look easy. Really, you have to hold that thing really steady so the front person can aim properly.

(Shinji gets the third one, but misses the fourth.)

Yolei: Mimi, keep it steady!

(They get the fifth ring. The Guys are watching, a bit nervous. Shinji concentrates, and manages to get the sixth ring.)
Shinji: (VO) Absolute concentration. I just had to drown out all the background noises.

(They miss the seventh.)

Mike: (VO) It’s a 3-3 tie, with one ring left for the Angels…

(Shinji connects and spears the winning ring.)

Mike: (VO) And they’ve done it! Angels win it 4-3!

(Mimi and Yolei get out of the car and hug. Gary and Akane look down, a bit sad.)
Akane: (VO) It’s a tough way to go, but after all of what happened… through all the taunting, sabotage, and setbacks… it’s probably the right way to go.

Mimi: (VO) You know, I hate to say it… but I’m going to miss them!

(Mimi and Akane hug. Brock goes up to Mimi, also looking for a hug. Mimi hesitates a second, but delivers.)

Brock: Well, I guess you guys won.

Mimi: I guess we did. It was certainly fun though!

Akane: You bet! We’re going to have to have a rematch sometime.

(Yolei and Shinji enter. Brock hugs Yolei, whether she likes it or not, and Shinji and Akane shake hands.)
Yolei: (VO) The biggest thing to remember is that this always had been a friendly rivalry. Sure, we went all out to stop each other, but in the end- we’re all friends. It’s obviously great to come out on top, but the rest of the race isn’t going to be quite as fun without them, you know?

(Brock is shaking hands with the other teammates, and looks over at Gary, who seems to be a bit sad about it.)
Brock: (VO) I think Gary is taking it a bit hard. It is still hard to say goodbye and accept defeat.

(Shinji goes up to Gary and extends a hand.)

Shinji: Good race.

(Gary looks up at him and returns it solemnly, but sincere.)

Gary: Right. Thanks.

Gary: It’s a mixed feeling. I had two rivals in this race- Ash and the Angels. I’m one for two, which isn’t that bad. I just really was set on winning, and it’s tough leaving now.

(As a parting shot, Shinji, Yolei, Mimi, Brock, Akane, and Gary are all huddled up together in front of the camera.)

Yolei: It was the greatest rivalry in the history of racing!

Akane: Yep! We can’t say we didn’t have fun.

Brock: And it’s going to be The Angels all the way now!

(Brock puts an arm around Mimi’s shoulder and shakes her a bit.)

Brock: If we can’t stop them, nobody will!

(Show that shot on the monitor in the studio as Tom takes it home.)
Tom: And it definitely was fun, as The Angels defeat their worthy rivals in battle and continue to Leg Four of the race. What challenges will they, as well as the other three teams, have to endure on the road to Los Angeles? Find out next time on Pokéball Run. Until then- sayonara.
